    This place was originally known as Shamaun ka Jhanda, Shamaun was the first local christian in Amritsar, was baptised in July 1853 by the Rev Robert Clark. Shamaun (original name giani Kesar Singh was a sikh priest before his convertion) donated all his property to the CMS and requested them to raise a big banner for the King of kings, according to him there were banners/flags all over in the city flying high for the other gods and but none for the True and Living God. He said "take this land and raise a big banner for the Name of Christ so the the people of my city may know that the He has arrived". The CMS raised a huge white banner a chapel was made in his mamory. The whole compound was used for the christians functions and gatherings for over a centuary. Around 1974 mehraj masih a bogus so called attorney with the help of local politicians started destroying cms property that comes under Amritsar Diocesan Trust. sadly no one remembers Shamaun or Shamaun ka Jhanda any more
