Jalianwalabag: The sacred walls still bear mute testimony to British bullets. Today Jalianwalabag has become a hallowed shrine for Indians. The park is enclosed by a high wall and surrounded by houses. The only entrance is very narrow. On Baisakhi Day (13 April) in 1919, thousands of Indian had assembled here to protest against the Rowlatt Act. The notorious. British general Dwyer and his men stood at the entrance and showered bullets on the unarmed crowd without any prior warning. The mayhem continued till the last bullet had been fired, killing more than 2,000. The alarmed people jumped into a well to save their lives which caused more than 300 deaths. This brutal massacre shocked the entire world which condemned the act. The Bengali poet Rabindranath renounced his British conferred knighthood in protest. To honour the martyrs, a red sandstone memorial was erected here. The well is also another object of curiosity. It is 2 furlong away from the Golden Temple

These theaters were one of its kind when they opened up (around late 70s early 80s). People use to go see movies just to see the curtain rising and falling before and after the movie.
